Verity Marina Tuition
Creative & Academic Tuition for Young Learners
My Approach
I am an experienced private tutor offering warm, expert support for children who want to feel confident and capable.
For over 18 years, I’ve helped students - from early readers to exam candidates - develop strong academic foundations and a genuine love of learning.
Whether we’re preparing for an entrance exam, strengthening English or maths, or gently building confidence, my sessions are personalised, structured and encouraging.
With a degree and postgraduate diploma in English Literature, I am passionate about helping pupils develop strong reading and writing skills, but also love to help students reach their full potential in maths.
My teaching style is warm, engaging and nurturing, with high achievement and measurable progress.
Based between London and Oslo, I offer online tuition throughout the UK and internationally, offering thoughtful, high-quality online tuition that fits naturally around different time zones and school schedules, as well as short in-person placements by arrangement.
11+ Entrance Exam Preparation
Over the years I’ve developed a clear, steady and genuinely enjoyable approach to 11+ preparation. I focus on building strong English, maths and reasoning skills, but just as importantly, I help children feel confident, calm and capable in the process.
My lessons are structured and purposeful, whilst keeping each topic stimulating and enjoyable. The aim is simple: to help each student reach their fullest potential without feeling overwhelmed or under pressure, going into their assessments feeling prepared, focused and even excited to show what they can do.
7+ and 8+ Entrance Exam Preparation
For younger pupils, I keep things warm, encouraging and gently challenging. Children at this age make progress best when they feel relaxed and supported, so I focus on strong literacy and numeracy foundations, early reasoning skills, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity. It’s structured teaching, but always with kindness and humour at the centre.
Services
English skills
I provide clear, thoughtful teaching that genuinely deepens a child’s relationship with English. Lessons blend comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and structured writing, helping students become stronger readers and writers. Whether we are crafting essays, analysing texts, or improving clarity in writing, I offer the kind of detailed, personalised guidance that enables real progress. This suits both high-achieving students aiming to excel, and children who need patient, steady support to catch up.
Creative Writing Coaching
This is one of my favourite areas to teach. I love to help children unlock their imaginations, shape their ideas, and write with clarity in their authentic voices. Together we explore how to build vivid images, choose precise, expressive vocabulary and use effective literary techniques to bring their writing to life. For keen writers, we refine structure and evolve ideas; for reluctant writers, I help remove the fear of the blank page and make writing feel enjoyable and manageable.
IELTs Preparation
I offer calm, clear and confidence-building IELTS support for teens and adults who want to achieve high scores with less stress. My approach is structured but friendly, helping students feel genuinely prepared rather than overwhelmed. My students have consistently achieved outstanding results, to date all scoring 8s and 9s across their papers.
SEN and Confidence Support
I have many years’ experience working with children with ADHD, dyslexia, ASD, processing difficulties and anxiety.
My teaching style is calm, patient and well-structured — ideal for students who benefit from gentle guidance and encouragement. I support focus, organisation, resilience and self-belief, so that academic progress becomes far less stressful and much more achievable.
Online & International Tuition
Alongside my work with UK-based families, I tutor children across Europe and internationally, including families based in Norway. My work with overseas families often involves supporting bilingual and multilingual learners, as well as children educated in British or English-medium settings abroad, who wish to develop strong, confident English.
I divide my time between London and Oslo, and teach both online and, where appropriate, in person. Lessons are carefully structured, supportive and tailored to the individual child, with a focus on developing clarity, confidence and a secure command of written and spoken English, whatever a child’s location or educational background.

FAQ
-
We always start with a short phone or video conversation with one or both parents. This gives you the chance to tell me about your child, your priorities, and any current concerns, and helps me understand what you’re hoping tuition will achieve.
The first lesson is then spent getting to know your child as both a person and a learner - how they think, where their strengths lie, any gaps to address, and what helps them feel confident and at ease. From there, I put together a clear but flexible plan, working steadily towards your goals in a way that feels focused, supportive and genuinely enjoyable.
-
Most lessons are one hour or ninety minutes, once or twice a week. This works well for the majority of students.
When preparing for an exam, I often recommend increasing the frequency or length of lessons as the assessment approaches. If tuition begins closer to an exam date, a more intensive schedule can be helpful. I’m always happy to advise on what will be most effective for your child.
-
Fees vary depending on the student’s age, level and the type of support required. I offer both hourly tuition and bespoke packages for families seeking longer-term or exam-focused support.
After an initial conversation, I’m happy to discuss options and recommend an approach that feels right for your child.
